Teacher and Support Persons of the Year

Joseph Shanklin Elementary teachers are doing life-changing work every day, and each year one standout is given the Teacher of the Year award for their contributions. To honor outstanding educators, each year teachers select one of their own to represent the school as Teacher of the Year for the educators’ achievements both inside and outside the classroom. The JSES 2017 Teacher of the year is Mr. Daniel McKeown.

Daniel McKeown is originally from the Upstate area of South Carolina and lived in West Virginia for many years.  Mr. McKeown taught at both the primary and intermediate levels while living in West Virginia. He relocated back to the Lowcountry and began teaching first grade at Joseph Shanklin Elementary school three years ago.

“I love the art of teaching. In my classroom, I often think about William Shakespeare's quote, “All the world’s a stage….”, because I know that my performance is measured by all that are in my classroom. Any great teacher has had the ability to perform in a way that engages their students and observers. Teachers perform and propel these individuals into their learning environments and capture their hearts and minds”.
